Mettis is investing £25m to support growing orders

We’re reaching the advanced stages of a £25 million investment programme in response to the growing number of orders from leading aerospace customers around the world.

We were recently awarded, for example, a multi-million pound contract to supply structural wing components for one of the most popular commercial, single-aisle aircraft following seamless performance in recent years. This contract award has allowed us to build a dedicated cell to increase capacity with new furnaces and five-axis machine centres.

We’ve been delivering the investment programme, on schedule, in line with our 2020 vision over the last few years with a focus on expanding capacity, enhancing our capabilities and increasing automation. Recent investments include:

  • A number of new presses including a 40-tonne, counter-blow hammer (equivalent of a 20,000 tonne hydraulic press) which, when it is delivered soon, will significantly increase our capabilities for both airframe and aero engine components.
  • State of the art testing equipment including a fracture toughness testing machine and upgraded ultrasonic testing equipment.
  • The first 3D scanner in the UK which can distinguish between parts which look identical to the human eye, with automated part marking so they can be organised into kits accurately then delivered direct to final assembly lines.

Customers continue to select us as their partner because we are able to deliver fully integrated solutions including design, tooling, forging, machining, treatments, assembly and testing.

Because we are investing and growing, we’re a great partner for our customers to work with to meet growing demands while offering total value, faster response times and quality.
