Mettis Aerospace has signed a multi-million pound contract with Spirit Aerosystems to supply forged airframe components for Airbus’ best selling aircraft – the A320
June 2007
The three-year, £24m agreement runs from 2008 – 2010 and covers a range of wing structure components supplied in both titanium and aluminium alloys. The company has many years of experience in these alloys and is recognised globally in the field of safety critical structures.
Mettis enjoys an excellent working relationship with Spirit and the companies work together on a variety of other aircraft including A321 and A340.
The 150-seat short to medium range A320 is the best-selling member of the Airbus family and is currently enjoying record production levels with Airbus recently announcing that by the end of 2009 the monthly rate of aircraft will increase.
The A320 is renowned as the first airliner to introduce a fly-by-wire flight control system and has further developed with features such as advanced electronic flight decks and energy efficient winglets.
