Mettis employees raise £4,731 for Redditch Association for the Blind

Over eighteen months, Mettis employees raised £4,731 for Redditch Association for the Blind which helps make the lives of 250 blind or partially sighted people easier and more fulfilling.

The charity, which is run and supported by a dedicated team of volunteers, makes a difference in so many ways. For example, they provide financial support for diverse needs and equipment such as talking clocks, TV binocular spectacles and print magnifiers. They also organise social activities and events such as lunch clubs, trips and parties.

The fundraising was coordinated by our social committee, a passionate group of employees from across our company who organised many activities and events including quiz nights, barbeques, a pantomime and Christmas raffle.

The charity was nominated by Jane Rose who worked as a Customer Order Administrator and was a key member of the social committee at Mettis prior to her recent retirement.

“I’ve been involved with the Redditch Association for the Blind for around twenty years,” Jane said. “I was inspired to begin volunteering because of the support my brother-in-law received from the charity when he lost his sight in his twenties. We were thrilled to bits when employees voted for the Redditch Association for the Blind to be Mettis’ partner charity and how many got involved with the fundraising.”

Mary Birkett, Honorary secretary for the charity said, “We were astounded to receive such a large contribution for our work in Redditch. This will go a long way to enhance the lives of the visually impaired in our town. We have to work very hard to raise money and it is extremely heartening when people like yourselves help in this way.”

The Redditch Association for the Blind will be using the funds to provide even more support for the visually impaired and is planning a special, theatre trip in the near future.
