About the Role

The QMS Manager is a key member of the Quality Team, leading and supporting a team of Quality Systems Engineers and ensuring the business adheres to the Quality Management System. The role involves ensuring all processes remain compliant with customer, regulatory, and aerospace industry requirements including (but not limited to) AS9100, AS13100, and NADCAP. You will write, agree, and implement the full internal audit schedule, lead planning and execution of audits, manage NCRs through to closure, and ensure the timely resolution of noncompliance's. You will prepare the business for customer and regulatory audits, act as lead chaperone during assessments, and drive the closure of any resulting NCRs. The QMS Manager owns the Management Review process, the Technical Contract Review process and team, and oversees DQR/DPRV activities to support customer requirements and month‑end sales.

As a condition of employment successful candidates are required to satisfy ITAR (International Traffic In Arms Regulations) compliance and must fulfil the following before commencing this role:
i. Currently hold the legal Right to Work in the UK
ii. Fulfil a DBS clearance
iii. Provide a consistent 5-year UK domicile
iv. Pass Drugs & Alcohol screening at the start of their Mettis employment

 

Responsibilities

Lead and support the Quality Systems Team and Technical Contract Review Team.

Own the internal auditing schedule and ensure execution in line with AS9100/AS13100/NADCAP expectations.

Raise, log, and manage NCRs, driving cross‑functional closure and preventing recurrence.

Act as lead chaperone during customer and regulatory audits.

Prepare the business for 3rd‑party audits and ensure timely completion of resulting actions.

Own and lead the Management Review process.

Ensure up‑to‑date internal and customer specifications are in use across the business.

Oversee and ensure compliance with DQR/DPRV processes.

Maintain the Quality Management System and ensure ongoing accreditation compliance.

Own systems KPIs and drive performance improvement.

Support continuous improvement through integration of procedures, auditing outputs, and NCR management.

 

Safety Responsibilities

Comply with EHS and legislative safety standards.

Comply with PPE and Mettis safety policies.

Attend occupational health appointments as required.

Promote safe working practices and participate in risk mitigation activities.

 

Quality Responsibilities

Ensure correct and up‑to‑date documentation is used for manufacturing and testing.

Work with Engineering to embed process improvements.

Support nonconformance investigations.

Deputise for the Quality Director when required.

 

Delivery Responsibilities

Support Procurement and Planning to minimise backlog and material delays.

Actively manage Engineering change requests to avoid production delays.

Liaise with Special Processes, Laboratory, and Conformance to ensure cost‑effective manufacturing methods.

 

Cost Responsibilities

Work with Finance and Business Development to keep costing standards up to date.

Support Purchasing in sourcing approved, cost‑effective raw materials.

Act as the first point of customer contact for changes requiring prior approval.

 

People Responsibilities

Demonstrate proactive teamwork within Quality and Technical Contract Review teams.

Maintain high standards of communication internally and externally.

Comply with all Mettis HR policies and procedures.

 

Qualifications

Engineering degree, HNC, or equivalent experience.

Demonstrable Quality experience within aerospace or similar manufacturing environment.

Understanding of AS9100 and aerospace prime supplier requirements.

Knowledge of aerospace forging processes and methods.

Understanding of aerospace materials and specification requirements.

Background in material or manufacturing engineering.

Experience with forging or hot metal forming (advantageous).

 

Required Skills

Ability to use EFACS or similar systems to interrogate order and manufacturing data.

Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).

Knowledge of audit processes, internal auditing, and NCR management.

Strong understanding of document control and procedure management.

Effective planning and project management skills.

Strong problem‑solving capability.

Relationship management and communication at all levels.

Decision making, prioritisation, and change management skills.

Experience with lean tools, visual management, and “Go‑Look‑See” process confirmation.

Ability to define, deliver, and contribute to SMART objectives.
